Antrim Cumann na mBunscol County Championships 2024
5 Jun 2024
On Wednesday 5th June, the boys' football team and the girls' camogie team headed off to St Louis Grammar to compete in the Antrim All County Finals.
Congratulations to the girls who competed bravely in their two matches against very strong St John the Baptist PS and Glenann PS teams. The standard of camogie was outstanding, and the games could have gone either way. It wasn’t to be for our girls on the day however, we are incredibly proud of what they have achieved this year. They are SW Antrim Champions and we are super proud of them.
In football, the boys played St Bride’s PS in their first game and the notably confident Belfast team were quickly subdued by our St Mary’s sharpshooters. Our boys played brilliantly as a team, supporting
and encouraging each other every step of the way. After a fantastic first half, the boys weathered a comeback attempt by St Bride’s to win by a goal.
Having beaten St Joseph’s Dunloy in the indoor finals our footballers were hot favourites going into their second game. The pressure certainly did not affect the boys as they calmly launched attack after attack coming out as comfortable winners and claiming the much-coveted title of Antrim County Champions. The boys were delighted to be greeted with a guard of honour welcome by all the Primary 3 to 7 children when they returned to school with the cup! Everyone at St Mary’s is so proud of this achievement. Well done to all the boys involved!
Congratulations and well done to Conan McKeever who was chosen by Cuman na mBunscol as Player of the Tournament.
