Ballymena Primary Schools Senior Cup Champions

Congratulations to our fantastic primary 7 boys who were crowned senior cup champions yesterday afternoon in the main pitch at the Ballymena Showgrounds! The boys had qualified for the finals day by topping their group a few weeks ago. We headed to the showgrounds as one of the top four teams in the Ballymena district. The boys were drawn against Camphill PS in their semi final and took no time to get into their stride. As usual they played great attacking football, playing with their heads up and always ensuring the defence was solid! They won this game 3-0. This set up a final against the impressive Fourtowns PS. It was a very tight game with St Mary’s dominating possession and creating more chances but we were unable to break the deadlock. The game finished 0-0 in normal time and after extra time. Penalties loomed and after being beaten in the junior cup final after penalties the boys wanted to make amends. They did so with distinction encouraging and cheering each other after every shot and save. After the 4th spot kick the boys wheeled away in delight! The cup was coming back to St Mary’s for the first time ever!! Well done to a great group of boys who showed fantastic sportsmanship and teamwork throughout making sure to include the boys who had picked up injuries and couldn’t feature today. Well done lads. We’re all very proud of you!
