In our school every year we take part in the Heart Start Programme and every class learns a little about how to care for someone in an emergency. From calling 999 to CPR, we learn how to do it all! But this year Bernie Mc Kenna, our local Heart Start NI trainer, delivered training to all staff and some of our parents. They are now certified first responders for Heart Start NI and received their certificates at assembly on 16th December 2016.
Primary 7 have also been very keen to upscale their knowledge and completed the final part of the programme this term learning how to assess a casualty and carry out CPR in the event of cardiac arrest.
Portglenone must have the greatest number of trained first responders in Northern Ireland!
